I have posted first about the forced upgrade, and I was unsure it was actual, due to not have been in the know about what had been happening.
Now I am a convert, and I see many gripes, hate messages, sue threats and such, so I felt it is time to give some help. Smile.
I have been posting on several boards, and it seems even though some have gone to different methods all want to just use that **__)+ thing.
1. The current Windows Live messenger works with Jaws 10/11 and Window Eyes 7.1 or current version. It is not like the original 2009 that was released around or about April. Get it from www.windowslive.com
2. Installing it means you must listen to or read what you are allowing. You do not have to install all that it comes with and only need the messenger. The check boxes to select any program you do not want are not noticed by Jaws in some cases, but check them anyway. I don’t have a brail display so cannot say how it looks. If you install all you can simply remove anything under add and remove programs, then Windows Live Essentials. Now after messenger is downloaded you must then again listen to what you are setting up, or how you are setting it up.
3. **Help! It doesn’t install, work, or whatever. http://help.live.com/help.aspx?mkt=en-us&project=WL_Messengerv9&querytype=keyword&query=nogol
4. That link will get you your answers, but it will require some study. Smile. Now if you are still having issues after this point call the pros that created the thing and ask for help. They will tell you what to do, or if you don’t mind connect directly to your computer and fix it for you. http://support.microsoft.com/
I gave this link because on this page you can locate the contact a support professional by email a support request or phone. Because we all live in different countries this page is the best source, and if you click that link you then locate your location and will get the number you need.
I wish all happy IM.

Peace.

Thanks for the help. Now I'm confident that when I upgrade my Window Eyes, it will work great.

hey I have used this since april and love it.

Doesn't mean ms should force the install. The thing still bugs me. They changed things for no good reason, and took away some features I really liked. (taking away half the status choices, and no more share folders anyone?) *shrugs* I should try it again, maybe they've changed something since I tried it back in June or somesuch, but I very much doubt they brought my features back.

Finally! I've been successful in deleting some of the crapware that comes with the program. Well, crapware for me.

I've nocked it down to around 40mb, still large, but what can one do?

2 questions...

I want to delete silverlight, will simple add/remove do it?
Secondly, is there a way to stop that windows live call from auto starting when wlm starts?

I wouldn't delete silverlight as its microsoft version of flash and you will need it for acessing and or downloading things from their sites going forward. and to singer of songs .. how do you know they were taken out or changed for no reason? Maybe they were changed or removed because they cause some kind of conflict or created a security risk they didn't have a patch for, or couldn't patch because of the nature of how it works.

The new version of WLM has the same layout as 8.5 did. So Window Eyes 6.1 can handle it as well as 7.1.

You don't have to have Silver Light, but why not? It might help on a site for a sighted person, or help play a online media file, but it is not needed. Next internet call is part of messenger, but you don't have to use it. Under tools in messenger you can stop it from starting when windows starts. That check box is in general settings. When messenger is started so is the internet call. Under control panel in XP you can go to internet options and then under there to programs and select the program you want for calls, but again it is not needed the change.

Ok, y'all, I'll keep silverlight. *smile*

From googling, the only way to stop that windows live call is a registry hack. No thank you!

WLM is mostly accessible. I'm having troubles with the sounds pannel, but at this time I don't think there is anything I can do about that.

Even system access had troubles with that particular panel.

Others have explained they have issues with changing the sounds. Here is how I do it, and it seems accessible and easy. Once you get there under tools the first thing I do is tab than I use arrow keys to get to say change when a contact signs on. On that button I press the space bar then I use the tab and arrow keys again to get where I want. You check the sound you slect then youtab again to listen to it. When adding a new sound you need it to be a WAV file and that file can be located anyplace on your computer, but if you move it you'll need to reset it in the messenger. That information I am sure can't be found on the help pages, so it's trial and arrow sort of, but that's how I get it done. Smile.

forereel, thank you! That worked like a charm! I'll have to play with it a bit more to see how many of the sounds I can change. New alert, new msg, etc...

I find it weird that even though I have an older version of windows live messenger I was never forced to install a new one. OH well, I won't complain, but if I have to use the new one for whatever reason, I'll just learn how to use it, it doesn't seem all that hard.
